Akron vs Pittsburgh Preview

In week 5 the Akron Zips head to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to face the Pittsburgh Panthers Saturday. The Zips are 1-2 SU and ATS. The Panthers are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS.

Akron is coming off a loss of 48-17 against Marshall last week. Quarterback Kyle Pohl who has 667 passing yards and 4 touchdowns leads the offense this season. Pohl also leads the rushing game was 69 yards on 22 carries and a 3.1 yards per carry average. However, Pohl is closely trailed by Hakeem Lawrence who has 61 yards on 12 carries and a 5.1 yards per carry average. Zach D’Orazio leads to wide receivers with 167 yards on 14 receptions.

The Akron Zips defense allows 23 points per game and 389 yards per game so far this season.

Pittsburgh is coming off a close loss of 24-20 against Iowa last week. Quarterback Chad Voytik who has 534 passing yards and 5 touchdowns leads the offense this season. James Conner leads the rushing game with 699 yards, 9 touchdowns and a 6.4 yards per carry average. Tyler Boyd leads the wide receivers with 293 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Panthers defense has been pretty good this season only allowing 17.3 points per game in 234 yards per game.

Keys to Akron win

Akron will have to shut down James Conner and the Pittsburgh running game. In addition, Akron has to get a running back more involved to help out QB Pohl.

Keys to Pittsburgh win

Pittsburgh will hold Pohl in check Saturday. In addition, Pittsburgh will need James Conner to play yet another great game.

Conclusion

This will be a pretty easy win for Pittsburgh. James Conner will have a huge game against a weak Akron defense.  Pittsburgh will improve to 4-1 on the season.
