georgaiIn week 5 the Appalachian State Mountaineers head to Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia to face the Georgia Southern Eagles Thursday. The Mountaineers are 1-2 SU and ATS. The Eagles are 2-2 SU and 4-0 ATS.

Appalachian State is coming off a very close loss 21-20 against Southern Miss last week. Quarterback Taylor Lamb who has 427 passing yards and 3 touchdowns leads the offense this season. Marcus Cox leads the rushing game with 280 yards, 4 touchdowns and a 5.3 yards per carry average. Simms McElfresh leads the wide receivers with 174 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Mountaineers defense allows 24.3 points per game and 328 yards per game so far this season.

Georgia Southern is coming off a win 28-6 against South Alabama last week. Quarterback Kevin Ellison who has 500 passing yards and 3 touchdowns leads the offense this season. Matt Breida leads the rushing game with 445 yards, 7 touchdowns and a 8.9 yards per carry average. Kentrellis Showers leads the wide receivers with 225 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Eagles defense has been pretty good this season only allowing 20.3 points per game in 397 yards per game.

Keys to Appalachian State win

Appalachian State will have to stop the rushing game of Matt Breida. In addition, the Mountaineers will need QB Taylor Lamb to be a bit more involved and pass the ball.

Keys to Georgia Southern win

The Eagles will have to play a good game and score points on the Mountaineers defense.
