ASTON VILLA v TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
DESPITE NINE LAST WEEK, EXPECT FEW GOALS
Joe Dyer, 28 Nov 2009
Wow! There's getting it wrong and there's getting it wrong. And last week
I GOT IT VERY WRONG INDEED.
Apologies if you followed the advice, I hope
the 9-1 mauling helped you get over any disappointment that a bad bet may
have caused.
Funny thing is, at half time with a 1-0 lead, the bet still
looked good. Thanks a million Jermain!
But enough of that and on to this week and Saturday evening's
mega-clash with Aston Villa.
If Spurs win at Villa Park, we will send a clear
sign that we are gunning for Champions League football in 2010-11.
Defeat would merely underline our status as the great pretenders.
Let's not make the mistake of underestimating Aston Villa - this is gonna
be mighty hard. Just three points behind us in the league, Martin
O'Neill's men have strong European aspirations of their own.
Predicting the outcome is tricky. Betfair customers make Villa the 2.56
favourites, with Spurs rated a 3 chance and the draw trading at 3.5.
And it's the outsider of those three options that tempts. Granted,
Tottenham don't do draws (just one this season) but the stalemate crops
up regularly in Villa's results, with three in the last six.
There's been little to separate recent games between the two. The last
four seasons have seen a pair of 2-1 wins each and the other four drawn. The
1-1 scoreline has occurred twice in that run of eight games and appeals
again as a correct score punt if looking for bigger odds.
Despite scoring nine times against Wigan, punters are not expecting an
avalanche at Villa Park, with under 2.5 slightly odds-against at 2.14.
The Claret and Blues possess the third stingiest defence in the League,
conceding just five times so far. Risky though it is, I'm tempted again
by another low-scoring affair.
