Rob Ryan Fired by SaintsNew Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton finally fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. It seems Senior defensive assistant Dennis Allen will take in Ryan’s duties.

The move, announced on Monday, comes a day after historically poor defensive trivial on Sunday in Washington. In opposition to a ordinary Redskins offense, New Orleans allowed 526 yards in a 47-14 loss to the Redskins. On Sunday, Saints allowed over 300 passing yards and over 200 rushing yards, while giving up 8.9 yards per offensive play.

Sean Payton said, “I’m disappointed for Rob it didn’t work out.”

He continued, “He’s a fantastic staff guy. He’s a guy that was respected greatly, not only in the locker room but by his peers. We just had to at some point look closely at making a change because the direction we were going wasn’t good. We really struggled with substitutions, getting lined up, getting our guys the defensive call and being able to function.”

The New Orleans rank last in the NFL in every major defensive statistical category, allowed per game (424.7), yards (4,259), yards per play (6.7), rushing yards per carry (5.0), passing touchdowns (28), net yards per pass attempt (7.9).

The Saints has an opponent’s passer rating allowed of 116.6, better than the passer rating of Tom Brady (111.1) and every other quarterback this season.

This season injuries have impeded the New Orleans’ unit, as a result Saints has ranked consistently low defensively for a season and a half, having complete last year ranked 31st.

Dennis Allen, a former Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator and head coach, was hired by this past offseason by New Orleans. Allen had been working as Payton assistant from 2006 to 2010.
