Jacksonville Jaguars vs Philadelphia Eagles preview

on

On Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a 1:00pm matchup at Lincoln Financial Field. Last week, the Jaguars faced the Atlanta Falcons, losing the game 24-14. The Eagles soundly defeated the New York Jets in their last game of the season, scoring 37 points to the Jets’ score of 7. Jacksonville ended the preseason with a record of 1-3, while Philadelphia went 2-2 for the preseason.

For the Jaguars to come out ahead on Sunday, starting quarterback Chad Henne will have to improve his throwing accuracy considerably. In Henne’s career, he has thrown 55 touchdown passes and 62 interceptions. The Jaguars also need to improve their pass rush, being ranked as one of the league’s worst in pass rushes for the last two seasons.

The Eagles have a great starting quarterback in Nick Foles and have upgraded much of their defensive line. However, they need to improve their pass coverage, as they allowed more passing yards than any other team in the NFL during the 2013 season. Safety Malcolm Jenkins will have to provide better coverage and Trent Cole, who had eight sacks in the second half of the last season, needs to continue to be effective at sacking the quarterback.

Jaguars that are expected to miss the season opener on Sunday include OT Austin Pasztor who is recovering from a hand injury, RB Storm Johnson who is rehabbing an ankle injury, and TE Clay Harbor who recently injured his calf.

The Eagles will be playing their first game of the 2014 season without WR Josh Huff due to a shoulder injury and OT Matt Tobin, who is out with an ankle injury. CB Jaylen Watkins is also expected to be on the bench until he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Latest Line – The Eagles are favored to win by 10.

The Eagles have the advantage on offense and will outplay the Jaguars on Sunday.
