LPGA News: Michelle Wie Eyes Second Major at Evian

on

Michelle Wie Michelle Wie returns to action after recovering finger injury at the Evian Championship  hoping to win her second career major title and a inaugural award named after retired Swedish great Annika Sorenstam.

Wie  missed four tournaments due to a stress reaction on her right index finger, forcing her withdrawal from the Meijer Classic early last month.

The new Rolex Annika Major honors the player with the best overall record in the five majors this season. To qualify, however, players have to win a major and this is their last chance.

Wie  warmed up this week playing five holes on Monday and 13 on Tuesday in hopes of working her way up to 18 by Thursday.

“I’m definitely one club less, not hitting it as far as I want to,” said Wie, who is coming off of an acute stress fracture in her right index finger. “But at the same time, I’m just really excited that I can hit balls, that I can come out here and play.”

“It’s probably my ninth time here or so,” Wie said of Evian-les-Bains in the French Alps, “and every time I come here, it still takes my breath away.”
