SPURS LOAN STARS IN MID-WEEK ACTION: TOWNSEND IMPRESSES AGAINST LEEDS UNITED
ComeOnSpurs.com, 26 Nov 2009

A look at the Spurs loan stars who featured in lower league action this mid-week paints a mixed picture.

Ryan Mason and Steven Caulker played the full game for Yeovil in their 1-0 defeat at Gillingham. Jon Obika also played most of the game before being substituted for Gavin Tomlin in the 78th minute.

Mason had shots that were blocked in the 33rd and 58th minutes and shots that flashed wide in the 41st and 86th. Caulker didn't do all that much.

John Bostock nearly scored for Brentford against Wycombe in the 39th minute but the Bees eventually succumbed 1-0. Bostock played 70 minutes before being replaced by Carl Cort in a tactical substitution.

Oscar Jansson and Troy Archibald-Henville were both unused substitutes as Exeter drew 1-1 against Millwall.

Andros Townsend was the star of the week though as his Leyton Orient side narrowly lost to Leeds United at Elland Road.

Townsend's free-kick set up Sean Thornton to drive the ball home in the fifth minute but the referee thought that the free-kick had been taken too quickly and he ruled it out.

Townsend also peppered the Leeds box with crosses and tested the keeper in the 33rd minute but all to no avail. He was also the most influential player in the opening half hour but Leeds eventually scored a last gasp winner through Max Gradel.

Adam Smith played the full 90 minutes in Torquay's 2-2 draw with Port Vale. He was booked for unsporting behaviour in the 80th minute for fouling Lewis Haldane.

David Button was an unused substitute for Shrewsbury as they lost 2-1 at Hereford.
