TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 0 ASTON VILLA 0
POST MATCH REACTION
ComeOnSpurs.com 7th Feb 2010
Spurs and Aston Villa shared the points in a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane yesterday.
Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel denied Ledley King, Peter Crouch and Tom Huddlestone amongst others, and Spurs were unlucky not be awarded a penalty after Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov felled Jermaine Defoe in the area.
Villa''s Richard Dunne admitted his side were fortunate that the decision went their way.
"It looked like a penalty but we got the decision," said Dunne. "We were very pleased with the point in the end."
However Friedel's performance should not be underestimated. Speaking after the match, the American, said: "They are a very good team going forward, we saw that from the videos we watched before the game and playing against them down the years.

"Harry (Redknapp) has got them going, especially at home with their waves of attacks. Maybe they had the better of the chances and will be disappointed but we were strong."
Villa boss Martin O'Neill feels that the cup form of Friedel's understudy Brad Guzan has galvanised the veteran keeper.
"I think he has been reinvigorated with the arrival of young Brad Guzan," O'Neill said. "The two Americans coming together, there's a bit of competition and I just think that Brad has been exceptional. In the last number of weeks his performances have been terrific."
The result, and that of the merseyside derby mean Spurs are no longer fourth and Villa stay within touching distance of their rivals.
"It keeps us alive," O'Neill added. "I'm delighted with the effort because we have a team going week in and week out, and we showed great tenacity. It was probably was our best defensive performance of the season, given the opposition.
"I've had fine defenders in my time, at Leicester and Celtic, with the same mentality as these guys - willing to throw themselves everywhere."
Friedel added: "We want to get as many points as possible and get in that top four if at all possible. We'll strive for that."
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp does not think the current standings will affect the final league placings.
He said: "Obviously it was a big result for Liverpool. They ground out a result. It's their weekend this week, it will be somebody else's next week, somebody else's the week after.
"Of course it's going to be tight, it's going to go all the way to the wire. You didn't see Manchester City getting beat at Hull, not many people would have tipped that one, would they?"

gorgeousGeorge, February 7, 2010 at 11:32 am For me that\'s 4 points we have dropped against the most over rated team in the prem. We should have beaten them yesterday and at theirs. They are just like Leicester were under o\'neil but with some better players. I hate to admit it but I think wenger called it right with his comments
Shannon, February 7, 2010 at 12:43 pm When we bought Peter Crouch, Harry said he gave us the ability to change our game. Now we seem to have changed it permanently. He plays entire games! Crouch can\'t help being who he is, so I don\'t blame him, but I think we invest far too much tactically in trying to find him. He has become the focal point of our attacks. Besides the fact that this is really boring football, it isn\'t working, because Crouch really isn\'t that good in the air. Some will say this isn\'t an accurate analysis because we came close a few times and if we had scored the tone of the comment would have been different. But we suddenly seem to have forgotten how to score. We dominate games but don\'t win, and its very frustrating.
Dave, February 7, 2010 at 1:42 pm SHANNON - agree with all you say. Crouch is fine as an \"impact sub\" to give another dimension to a game but as a starter it is not working. It is also getting very frustrating that opposition keepers are having their games of their lives when they play against us!
JOHN ADAM, February 8, 2010 at 3:53 am I agree Crouch is not effective these days and those long balls to him do not seem to be working. I wonder why he plays the full 90 mnutes even when he is not performing. We are drawing too many matches on our home ground or even losing them because of our inability to score in spite of our dominance.
