San Diego Chargers Vs Arizona Cardinals: Preview

on

Monday Night Football returns this Monday as the San Diego Chargers meet the Arizona Cardinals at the University of Phoenix Stadium. The final game of the preseason was a matchup between the Chargers and the Cardinals. In that game, the Chargers came out ahead 12-9. The Chargers ended the preseason with a record of 2-2 and the Cardinals ended up with a 1-3 record.

The Chargers have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Last season, veteran quarterback Phillip Rivers completed 69.5 percent of his passes, both a career best and an NFL high percentage. The Chargers averaged 393.3 yards a game, earning a fifth-place NFL ranking. The offense expects to do even better this year as they hit their stride and find their rhythm.

The Chargers’ weak point is their defense, finishing 23rd in total defense last season. The Cardinals need to exploit this weakness every chance that they get. If quarterback Carson Palmer and the rest of the Cardinals’ offense can retain possession of the ball and keep it moving down the field, they should be able to pull out the win.

The Chargers injury list is pretty small, with only OG Jeromey Clary listed as out for the game against the Cardinals. The Cardinals will be playing their first game of the regular season without defensive tackle Darnell Dockett, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during practice. Safety Tyrann Mathieu is still recovering from a torn ACL and LCL suffered last season and his status is unclear for Monday’s game. RB Andre Ellington is listed as questionable for the game.

Latest Line – The Cardinals are favored to win by 3.

The game promises to be a tough one, but the Cardinals will use their superior offense to capitalize on the mistakes of the Chargers’ defense and win the game.
