In week 3 the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (1-1 overall) travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face the Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0 overall) on Saturday.

Southern Miss beat Alcorn state 26-20 last week. Southern Miss was led by quarterback Nick Mullens with 208 passing yards and 2 TDs. Ito Smith led the Golden Eagles with 118 rushing yards on 32 carries. Casey Martin led the wide receivers was 56 receiving yards on 7 catches.

The Golden Eagles allowed 393 yards and 20 points last week. In addition, they had 2 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions.

Alabama beat Florida Atlantic 41-0 last week. The Alabama Crimson Tide were led by quarterbacks Blake Sims who had 228 yards passing and 2 TDs and Jake Coker who had 202 passing yards and 1 TD. T.J. Yeldon led the rushing game with 43 rushing yards on 7 carries.

The Crimson Tide’s defense only allowed 145 yards and 0 points. In addition, they had 1 fumble recovery.

Keys to Southern Miss win

Southern Miss is going to need Nick Mullens to play a great game and not turn the ball over. Ito Smith will probably not see as many touches as last week with Alabama’s strong defensive line. However, he will still need to play good game.

Alabama will need QB Blake Sims to play a good game and not turn the ball over. In addition, Yeldon will have a better game this week against a stronger team than last week.

Conclusion

Blake Sims should be able to find some weak spots in the Southern Miss secondary. In addition, T.J. Yeldon should find some sizable holes in Golden Eagles defense.
