UCF 0-1 at No-20 Missouri 2-0 Preview

Russell Hansbrough MissouriCOLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 20 Missouri Tigers who are unbeaten at 2-0 host the 0-1 UCF Knights on Saturday. The Knights fell at the Penn State Nittany Lions 26-24 on a last second field goal while the Tigers pulled of a 49-24 road win at the Toledo Rockets in their prior game.

The Knights managed only 246 yards but turned out an efficient 24 points against Penn State. Sophomore quarterback Justin Holman has won the starting job back for now after his impressive relief performance in the comeback against Penn State in which he threw for 204 yards and a score and then rushed for two more scores. Sophomore running back Dontravious Wilson will seek to improve on his 1.6 yards per carry average against the Nittany Lions. The UCF defense allowed 511 yards and 26 points in its’ last outing but did force three turnovers. Redshirt senior defensive back Clayton Geathers led with 15 tackles, two for loss while gathering up a fumble recovery.

Meanwhile Missouri’s offense is rolling, averaging 447.5 yards and 43.5 points per game led by sophomore quarterback Maty Mauk who has thrown for 503 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 53 yards and another score. Junior running back Russell Hansbrough lead the rush attack with 210 yards and two scores while senior Marcus Murphy has 110 yards rushing. The senior trio at receiver is providing dividends with Jimmie Hunt (9 catches, 102 yards, 2 TD), Bud Sasser (7 catches, 158 yards, 2 TD) and Darius White (7 catches, 152 yards, 3 TD) each having multiple TD catches and more than 100 yards receiving. The Tigers’ defense is allowing 387.5 yards and 21 points per game having forced five turnovers with six sacks. A pair of bookend on the defensive line are the difference with senior Markus Golden (16 tackles, 5 for loss, 2.5 sacks) and junior Shane Ray (9 tackles, 3.5 for loss, 3 sacks) stymying opposing offenses.

Keys for UCF Win

Consistency on offense with an efficient performance by Holman and a running game getting more than two yards per carry. Defensive backs will be tested and must make plays in the pass game.

Keys For Missouri Win

Mauk must continue to utilize his weapons in the potent UCF attack and take care of the football. Defensive line must control point of attack.

Conclusion:

UCF is thinking upset and will give the Tigers a battle but Missouri has an SEC title in mind and doesn’t want a stumble on the way.
