Wizards Top Celtics In Double Overtime Stunner

The Washington Wizards pulled off an amazing victory against the Boston Celtics at the Verizon Center last night. The thrilling 133-132 double-overtime win improved the Wizards to 10-2 at home this season. After their impressive start to the season, the Wizards may be in contention to claim the Eastern Conference title this season.

The Wizards came to the game determined to avenge Sunday’s frustrating loss to the Celtics in New England. In a rare scheduling quirk, the Wizards got the opportunity to face the team again 450 miles to the south the very next day. The Celtics did enough to push the game into overtime, and then into another overtime, but couldn’t pull out the win in the final moments of the game.

The MVP of the game was unquestionably star Wizards point guard John Wall. During the game, Wall had one of the best performances of his career. The game saw Wall hand out seventeen assists (a career high), take three steals, and seize seven rebounds. Wall scored 10 of his 26 points during the second overtime period.

After the game, Wall dedicated his performance in the game to a little girl from Northwest Washington named Miyah Telemaque-Nelson. Wall befriended six-year old Miyah last year at the hospital where she was battling Burkitt’s lymphoma. Wall had received a heartbreaking text message that morning saying that little Miyah had lost her battle with the disease and had passed away.

During an on-court television interview, Wall said, “This is for Miyah, one of my close friends that I lost. It’s just tough, man. To see a little kid fight so hard for cancer and can’t beat it, this game’s for her. My jersey, my shorts, I’m going to give it to her family. It’s a tough day for me, and I was really quiet today. . . . ” Wall then stopped and tears flowed down his cheeks. Unable to answer a subsequent question, he walked off to the locker room. He had accomplished what he set out to do – he won that game for Miyah.
