2014 US Ryder Cup: Watson Chooses Mahan, Bradley, Simpson


Hunter mahanSelecting Ryder Cup participants is never easy. It seems someone is always left out.  Tom Watson used his three captains picks yesterday and selected Keegan Bradley, Hunter Mahan, and Webb Simpson as his final  selections. The three are a combined 8-5-3 in their  Ryder Cup careers with Bradley and Mahan pitching in three wins each and Simpson providing two.

Bradley and Mahan were expected to be selected but it was Simpson who captain Tom Watson said he didn’t decide on until Tuesday morning.

“It really came to me this morning,” Watson said to the Golf Channel. “I kind of had a revelation this morning.”

 Bradley was overwhelmed by the news as were the others.

“I’ve made no secret of how important this team is to me,” Bradley told Golf Channel. “I think this is a redemption year for a lot of guys who were on the team last year.”

“There’s a lot of great players who could have made this team,” said Mahan. “It felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.”

“It was one of the greatest calls I’ve ever gotten,” Simpson said. “I was elated — it was five in the morning. Unfortunately I didn’t have anybody to celebrate with.”

 The 2014 Ryder Cup will try and eventually disastrous defeat at Medinah in 2012.
