Chelsea Consider Acquiring Edinson Cavani

Soccer TransfersChelsea, of London, are looking to acquire Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, sources have told ESPN FC.

In order for the 27 year old Uruguayan to join Chelsea, the club are going to have to work around multiple factors, one of which is UEFA rules in regard to international players.

Chelsea alreadys exceeds he UEFA quota for number of international players over the age of 21, Didier Drogba taking them to 18, one over the limit. Including the various roster moves hat would be required, there is also the financial aspect to consider.

There appears to be a strong chance that Czech Keeper, Peter Cech, will be moving on from the club. If Chelsea does go along and purchase Cavani, it is likely the club would sell of Fernando Torres.

Also, the departure of Romelu Lukaku, now playing for Everton, brought in an extra 28 million pounds which could be very helpful in acquiring Cavani.

Chelsea has been quoted the price of 40 million pounds from Cavani’s current club, Paris Saint-Germain, and have been told by PSG that the striker is eager to move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea has already talked with the player’s camp, but the club is still assessing all possible aspects of the situation.

Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has been looking to revamp his attacking line as they produced less goals than Mourinho would have desired during a less than stellar 2013-2014 campaign. If Chelsea signs Calvani and sells Torres, the entire front line for Chelsea will have a very different look than last year, especially after the departures of Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o, and the purchases of Drogba and Diego Costa.

Calvani would give Mourinho the kind of fast pace the coach prefers when on the attack, and can help, along with the revamped front line, lead Chelsea to a stronger season this year.
