DaMarcus Beasley Looks To MLS For Next Team

US Soccer NewsIt looks like the next stop for DaMarcus Beasley will be Major League Soccer according to sources with knowledge of the situation. Beasley is looking to return to the U.S. from his current club in Mexico, Puebla. Beasley hopes to sign within the league before the end of the week

“I would literally play almost anywhere,” Beasley told The (Fort Wayne) News-Sentinel on Friday during an event at his soccer school. “I’m excited to get back on the field, excited for a new journey. Where that will be I don’t know yet.”

MLS allocation rules give Toronto FC first bid. If Toronto declines, Columbus, FC Dallas, D.C. United and Vancouver would follow in turn ahead of the sixth-place Chicago Fire.

Beasley played 98 games for the Fire from 2000-2004 and then played in Germany, the Netherlands, Scotland and England. He spent the past two seasons with Puebla with 10 goals in 59 appearances.

According to Fire technical director Brian Bliss a return to Chicago seems unlikely.

“We’ve talked about it, but the numbers are probably a bit out of our range,” Bliss told the Chicago Tribune. “We’d like to pursue it but I don’t think it makes sense for us.”

Likewise Columbus coach Gregg Berhalter seemed to tamp down expectations of Beasley joining the Crew.

“What I think is it’s something we’d look at,” Berhalter said “Obviously I have a lot of respect for DaMarcus as a player. He’s done a great job, especially representing the country in four World Cups. It’s something we’d look at, but I’m not sure how closely we’d look at it.”
