Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers Preview

This Sunday, the Detroit Lions take on the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium to start week two of the regular season. In week one, the Lions faced the New York Giants and defeated them 35-14. The Panthers took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their first game of the regular season and won with a final score of 20-14. Both teams are coming into week two with a record of 1-0

For the Lions to win against the Panthers this Sunday, they need to keep up their impressive defense. In week one, the Lions defense was able to hold the New York Giants to just 197 yards during the entire game. QB Matthew Stafford is known for making good decisions and is able to connect with top target Calvin Johnson seemingly at will to make big plays.

The key to the win for the Panthers is their imposing offensive line. Rookie receiver Kelvin Benjamin caught six passes for 92 yards and a score in the first game of the regular season and tight end Greg Olsen had an eight-catch, 83-yard day while also scoring for the Panthers. Panthers’ starting QB Cam Newton did not play in the season opener due to a rib injury, but he is scheduled to return to the field on Sunday.

The Lions will be playing in week two without CB Bill Bentley, who is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Lions’ T LaAdrian Waddle has been sidelined with a calf injury and S Don Carey is out with a hamstring injury. LB Kyle Van Noy is still recovering from an abdominal injury and is projected to return in week 10. The Panthers are relatively healthy going into Sunday’s game, with only T Kevin Hughes on the injured reserve list with an undisclosed injury.

Latest Line – The Panthers are favored to win by 3.

The Panthers’ offense will be too much for the Lions’ defense to handle, allowing the Panthers to remain in control of the game and secure the win.
