Houston Texans vs Oakland Raiders Preview

On Sunday, the Houston Texans travel to California to play against the Oakland Raiders at Coliseum with kickoff scheduled for 4:25pm. In week one of the regular season, the Texans faced the Washington Redskins and defeated them with a final score of 17-6. The Raiders faced the New York Jets in their first game of the regular season and lost 19-14. The Texans head into week two of the regular season undefeated at 1-0 while the Raiders start off with a 0-1 record.

The Texans have shown a strong defense this year, especially in last week’s win over Washington. In that game, the Texans were able to sack the quarterback three times and recover two fumbles in the second half. Defensive end J.J. Watt received many accolades for his play during the game, which included five quarterback hits, one sack, two tackles for loss, one blocked extra point and one fumble recovery. If the defense can keep this up in week two, they are going to make it very difficult for the Raiders.

The Raiders have seemed offensively challenged in their preseason games and in last week’s loss to the Jets. Even though they have revamped their offensive line and placed new starters at running back and quarterback, they are having trouble finding their rhythm, which is affecting their ability to make plays. New quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick needs to be able to find the receivers quickly to avoid being sacked and throw accurately to make plays whenever he can.

Texans’ LB Jadeveon Clowney has been sidelined for four to six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. RB Andre Brown will not be playing on Sunday as he is serving a suspension and T Will Yeatman is out with a concussion.

Raiders’ CB Taiwan Jones is out indefinitely with a foot injury and LB Nick Roach has been sidelined with a concussion. CB Chimdi Chekwa and LB Kaelin Burnett will also be out of the game on Sunday as both are rehabbing knee injuries.

Latest Line – The Texans are projected to win by 3.

The difficulties displayed by the Raiders last week will be their undoing this week against the Texans.
