Jason McCourty presenting Tackle Sickle Cell Comedy Night 2017

Browns veteran cornerback Jason McCourty and his twin brother Devin McCourty, the safety of the New England Patriots, have both seen the effects of sickle cell disease.

It’s been a family disease – Jason said while preparing to face the Lions on Sunday in Detroit.

“It is a disease that has been in my family. My aunt and my uncle both suffer from the disease.” He added, “My father suffered from the trait, so that is kind of what inspired my brother and me to start the Tackle Sickle Cell campaign about five years ago.”

McCourty will appear a comedy night fundraiser at the Cleveland Improv on Monday. The comedians Gary Owen & Guy Torry will be seen at the fundraiser and will support the McCourtys’ Tackle Sickle Cell campaign, with donations going to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospitals in Cleveland.

The veteran cornerback held similar comedy nights in Nashville last year while playing with the Titans. His brother, Devin, held a corresponding casino night in Boston a year ago raised $200,000. Jason is playing with the Browns this season for the first time, but couldn’t say how much he’s raised over the years.

“Just looking to have a good time,” Jason said. “Looking to have some of the guys come out, raise awareness, raise money. … Should be a good time.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET, and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. ET. Tickets will be available at
