Middle Tennessee vs Old Dominion Preview


In week 5 the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders head to Foreman Field in Norfolk, Virginia to face the Old Dominion Monarchs Friday. The Blue Raiders are 2-2 SU and 3-1 ATS. The Monarchs are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS.

Middle Tennessee is coming off 36-17 loss against Memphis. Quarterback Austin Grammer who has 960 passing yards and 3 touchdowns leads the offense this season.  Reggie Whatley leads the rushing game with 264 yards, 2 touchdowns and a 5.7 yards per carry average. Marcus Henry leads the wide receivers with 230 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders defense allows 31.3 points per game and 444 yards per game.

Old Dominion is coming off a very close win of 45-42 against Rice last week. Quarterback Taylor Heinicke who has 1172 passing yards and 10 touchdowns leads the offense this season. Gerard Johnson leads the team was 332 yards, 1 touchdown and a 5.6 yards per carry average. Zach Pascal leads the wide receivers with 329 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Old Dominion Monarchs defense allows 29.8 points per game and 413 yards per game.

Keys to Middle Tennessee win

Middle Tennessee has to shut down quarterback Taylor Heinicke and to do that they will have to bring a lot of pressure. In addition, they will need QB Austin Grammer to continue playing well but they will need him to fine the end zone a bit more often.

Keys to Old Dominion win

Old Dominion will have to shut down the passing game of Middle Tennessee. In addition, they will need Taylor Heinicke to continue playing outstanding.

This will be a very close game. However, the Old Dominion’s defense will play a little bit better than the Blue Raiders and the Monarchs will improve to 4-1 on the season.
