New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins preview

On Sunday, the Sun Life Stadium in Miami will host the first regular season game between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins. In their last game of the preseason, the Patriots lost to the New York Giants with a score of 16-13. The Dolphins met the St. Louis Rams and eked out a narrow victory 14-13. The Patriots ended their preseason with a record of 2-2 and Miami left the preseason with a record of 3-1.

One of the biggest advantages for the Patriots on Sunday is the amount of experience available on the team. There are a number of returning veterans, including several top receivers, but team anchor quarterback Tom Brady is questionable for the game on Sunday due to a calf injury suffered during practice. Tight end Tim Wright, who joined the team this year from Tampa Bay, is expected to have a great game and receiver Brandon LaFell, acquired from the Carolina Panthers, promises to keep the game interesting.

The Dolphins recognized the problems in their offensive line last season and spent the offseason shoring it up with additions, such as former Philadelphia quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor and new left tackle Ja’Waun James. Hopefully, the changes will be enough to allow Miami to break past the Patriots’ skillful defense and put some points on the board.

In addition to quarterback Tom Brady, the Patriots will also be missing tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is recuperating from knee surgery performed in the offseason. Defensive end Michael Buchanan and defensive tackles Christopher Jones and Sealver Siliga are questionable for Sunday’s game.

Dolphins’ defensive end Terrence Fede is questionable for Sunday’s game due to a knee injury, along with center Mike Pouncey and linebacker Jordan Tripp. Dolphins’ lineman Dion Jordan and safety Reshad Jones will both miss the first four games of the season due to violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policies.
