New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons preview

On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints meet the Atlanta Falcons on their home turf in the Georgia Dome in their first game of the regular season. The Saints lost their last game of the preseason in a bitter defeat to the Baltimore Ravens 22-13. The Falcons beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-14 in their last game. The Saints ended the preseason with a 3-1 record, while the Falcons went 2-2.

Some well-respected national analysts are saying that the Saints are on track for another Super Bowl win this season. It will be difficult for the Falcons to stop the Saints’ high-impact passing game, especially with WR Brandin Cooks playing on Sunday. The Falcons should also be worried about the Saints young starting defensive line, which has shown itself to be one of the best in the league.

If the Falcons want to win on Sunday, they will need to figure out how to stop surrendering so many touchdowns and improve their deep pass coverage. Second year CB’s Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford and strong safety William Moore will have to make that happen.

For the game on Sunday, several prominent Saints are expected to be sitting on the sidelines. Safeties Rafael Bush and Marcus Ball and fullback Erik Lorig have been nursing injuries suffered in the preseason and may not be ready to play on Sunday. Linebacker Khairi Fortt is still out with a foot injury that occurred several weeks ago. It also remains to be seen whether receiver Kenny Stills has rehabbed his quadriceps injury enough to play

Falcons LT Sam Baker is out for the season with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee. Offensive lineman Mike Johnson is also out for the year with a foot injury. Defensive tackle Corey Peters continues to recover from an Achilles tear suffered against the San Francisco 49ers last December and his status for Sunday’s season opener is unclear.

Latest Line – The Saints are projected to win by 3.

While the game promises to be an interesting rivalry game, the Falcons will ultimately find themselves outmatched by the Saints.
