Oakland Raiders vs New York Jets preview

On Sunday in the MetLife Stadium, the Oakland Raiders will meet the New York Jets in their first matchup of the regular season. In their last preseason game, the Raiders beat the Seattle Seahawks 41-31. The Jets played against the Philadelphia Eagles and were soundly thrashed 37-7. The Raiders and the Jets both ended the preseason with a record of 2-2.

If the Raiders hope to win on Sunday, they will need to improve their rush game. Last season, the Raiders ranked 12th in the league in rushing yards. The Raiders must also find a way to contain Jets’ WR Eric Decker if they hope to have a chance. Decker has racked up more than 427 yards in games against the Raiders over the past three years.

During the offseason, the Jets used their time wisely shoring up several positional units on offense. Quarterback Geno Smith showed during the preseason that he can make smart and sure throws and he needs to continue that throughout the regular season. Chris Johnson will also be a threat to the Raiders’ defense. In the preseason, Johnson caught six passes, had 23 carries, rushed for 107 yards, and scored a touchdown.

Raiders CB Chimdi Chekwa is out for the game against the Jets because of an injury to his knee and LB Nick Roach is questionable for the game as he is still recovering from a concussion that occurred during the third game of the preseason. Jets CB Dee Milliner will not be playing in Sunday’s matchup against the Raiders due to a high-ankle sprain. LB Ikemefuna Enemkpali will also be on the bench, as he is still recuperating from an injury to the plantar fascia in one of his feet.

Latest Line – The Jets are favored by 5.5 points.

While both teams will be coming to win on Sunday, the New York Jets have the most power on their team and using that power effectively will help them ultimately prevail.
